Pattern often decorates her work with shape referencing the smooth, fluid modernity of the 1960s as well as elements of abstracted, early art-deco design. Huntly’s energetic and confident mark making distracts the eye from the careful balance of form, her deeply saturated pastel colour often underpinned by a deeper hue of acrylic or gouache. Playful yet sophisticated tonality pushes objects forward for initial consideration, with similar shape and form reflected from behind and within. In this manner, grounds are intriguingly pinned, forcing the eye to rove and the mind to question.
Scottish born, Huntly studied at Harrow School of Art and later at Hornsey College of Art in London. She is an elected member of four prestigious federations, including Past President of the Pastel Society. She is a published author of a number of books about drawing and painting and has attained numerous prizes for her work. She exhibits widely, and her work is held in many private and public collections, including the National Museum of Wales.
